Balance the Budget

I wouldn't spend the money on anything. We are going into debt at the rate of a billion dollars a day. I would balance the budget. If we don't do that in the next administration, we will reach the point where we can't pay the interest on the debt. At that point, the U.S. will implode like the former Soviet Union.

Then all spending on Education, Healthcare, Housing, Foreign Aid, etc... will all stop.

Criminal Justice

I would begin the process of re-defining the role of prisons in today's culture. I would present public defenders' offices with budgets and resources equal to those of their prosecuting opponents, so that the long whispered of "fair trial" might actually exist. And then make prisons something besides the storage shed of societal leftovers that they are now. Prison theme songs should be more along the lines of "Moving on Up (upon release and using these new skills i have learned)" rather than the current song choice "Island of misfit toys".

Money for College, Not War

As a parent who is sending a daughter through college, it seems that a a couple of days of war funding could go for more extensive scholarships for young people. Then they would not have to sign up for the military and war and have to kill people to gain money for college. Also, for 50 minutes of war, Chicago could build 5 early childhood education centers in the Latino community. They are severely needed and would help put kids on the right path to learning at an early age.

Healthcare

t's hard to choose from the many, many other things that we should be spending that money on instead of the war.
But I think the most important thing that Americans deserve is to have equitable access to healthcare- doesn't a poor person deserve to be alive and healthy just as much as a rich one?
Perhaps this money could be used to give interest-free loans to those who need surgery, etc. so that they can eventually pay off the debt instead of just accruing more and more interest on the loans.
I strongly believe that making fat profits off of other people's health problems is morally wrong.

Healthy Food

There are so many different people and spaces that need asstiance in the form of money. ONE area that would be amazing is to really work on getting healty food to EVERYONE. Living in Chiago and currently living in a neighborhood where cheetos and coca cola are more abundant than fresh juice and vegetables. I would start a project to have a small farm in every neighborhood.

College Scholarships

As a college student who is paying her way through school, I know how much I will be in debt with student loans once I am finished. It enrages me that this country places such social significance on education, yet does nothing to ensure that every young mind has the opportunity to one. I say rather than spending money on war and militarism, lets arm our young men and women with the opportunities to study whatever they want wherever they want.
